Microtunneling

Microtunneling is a "trenchless" approach to pipe installation using boring / jacking equipment.

It eliminates many of the inherent problems encountered with open trench installation, and in many instances is the only way to to get the job done!

The method uses hydraulic jacks that push the pipe through the ground behind a cutting head, which is excavating as the pipe is being pushed.

Unlike traditional trenching it only requires a drive pit and a receiving pit for each horizontal drive of pipe.

  • Vadnais had been microtunneling for over 15 years.

  • Bore diameters range from 15" to 102"

  • We have tunneled more that 100,000+ LF including 9 river crossings.

This method of excavation has many advantages, a few of which are listed below:

  • Cost Effective

  • Less Exposure to Cave-in

  • Better control of line & grade in unfavorable soil conditions

  • Eliminates the necessity for disturbing existing landscaping, roadways, and utilities

  • Decreases the possibilities of Right-of-Way issues
